Mary Kathleen McDermott-Weiser, 92, passed away on New Year's Day in her Spearfish childhood home.
Katie was born August 31, 1923 to Spearfish pioneers James Patrick and Rose Marie (Carney) McDermott. She married Rudolph Joseph Weiser of Odin, Kansas during World War II and settled in Casper, Wyoming after the war. She returned to her Spearfish home in 1984.
Katie is survived by daughter; LaVonne (Gary) Geiger, Bar Nunn, WY, son; Col. (R) James (Beverly) Weiser, Leavenworth, KS, grandsons; Joshua Weiser, Fort Collins, CO, Dr. Michael Weiser, Lafayette, CO and two great-grandchildren.
Katie loved her friends, family and pioneers who settled in the Black Hills.
Visitation for Katie will be from 6-7 PM, Thursday, January 7 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Spearfish, followed by a Wake Service at 7PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM, Friday, January 8 also at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Altar Society at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
