Obituary

Mary Papka, 71, left the Black Hills with her loving father on April 27, 2013.

Mary was born on December 22, 1941 in Deadwood, SD to Herman and Helmi (Rajamaki) Smith. She married the love of her life, Orval Papka on December 31, 1960 and had three children Ronnie, Carol and Dan. Mary worked at Twin City Fruit in Deadwood until its closing. She then worked for Stretch's Glass and then the Black Hills Pioneer. Mary was the treasurer for the First Lutheran Church in Lead, a member of the Women of the Moose and the Fireman's Auxiliary. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed spending time with her family camping and watching Kansas basketball.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Carol Novak, of Rapid City; son Dan Papka of Spearfish; grandchildren Patrick and Krysta Novak and Jacob Papka; great-grandson Asher Papka. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orval; and son, Ronnie.
She will be missed by her family and friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 30 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Home in Spearfish. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, May 1 at 10:00 AM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Spearfish with burial following at Rose Hill Cemetery in Spearfish.
