Mary Alice Hollis Moore, 73 passed from this life on June 24, 2021 in the Spearfish Canyon Healthcare in Spearfish, SD.
Born in Springhill, LA on December 10, 1947 and reared in Natchez, Mississippi. Cookie, as Mary was known by everyone in her family, was the second youngest of four children. Mary was extremely gregarious, light-hearted, and loved people. She was very generous, especially at Christmas time. Her nieces and nephews adored her, and she doted on them lavishly. Mary was the devoted caregiver for her mother during the last few years of her mother's life.
Master Sargant Mary Moore served our country well with over 20 years of service in the United States Air Force as a communications technician and recruiter. During the Vietnam War, Mary was assigned to NORAD, located literally inside Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado Springs, CO, working as a communications specialist. While there, she was directly involved with the "Pueblo Crisis" in 1968 when North Korea attacked and held the USS Pueblo for 11 months, along with its 83 crew members. She also served in Ankara, Turkey for several years.
is survived by two brothers: William Dale Hollis and wife, Caren, of Waco, TX and John Michael Hollis and wife, Carlon, of Austin, TX. She is also survived by her longtime friend, Linda Harris of Deadwood, SD, as well as seven nieces and nephews: Kathryn Hollis of London, England, Robert Hollis of Houston, TX, Angela Taylor of Austin, TX, John Hollis, Jr. of Allen, TX, Billy Hollis of Austin, TX, Byron Ritchie of New Roads, LA, and Jeanne Ritchie Weeks of Alexandria, LA. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Sercie Dale Hollis of Springhill, LA and Elizabeth Hollis Campbell of Deadwood, SD, her younger sister and brother-in-law, Delores Ann Hollis Ritchie and Michael Ritchie, both of Monterey, LA, and her husband, Charles Moore of New Orleans, LA.
At the time of her death, Mary was a member of the Episcopal Church in Deadwood, SD.
Mary was buried at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD with full military honors.
