Obituary

On the eve of February 22, 2024, Mary Regina Gaylor left this world to walk in the gardens with Jesus. Gone but never forgotten, she lives on through the precious memories and life stories that she created and left behind in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Lovingly known as Mimi, she was the perfect picture of Love - quick to forgive and always put others above herself. She always had open doors and an open heart for all who came into her life.

Born in the Black Hills in South Dakota to Francis and Larry Thielen in 1933, she was one of 9 children. Her family moved to California when she was seventeen, and there she met her first husband and raised 5 beautiful children.

When her children were old enough, she entered the work field at City of Hope, first as a volunteer but quickly became the PR Director of Fundraising. She was well loved by all who surrounded her and greatly missed when she left.

Mary moved to Texas when her children were grown and found the love of her life, whom she survived for many years before marrying one last time. In Texas, she fell in love with the bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush flowers that covered the rolling hills. Surrounded by beauty, she enjoyed oil painting, dancing, playing the piano, listening to classical music, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren. Her home was always warm and welcoming, and there was a touch of magic in every corner, especially at Christmas time.

Of all the things that Mary did in life, the legacy she leaves is one of love and beauty. She has taught us to see the bright side of things, laugh often, love others, forgive quickly, and she always pointed us back to Jesus.

Instead of a memorial service, Mimi requested to have her ashes scattered among her beloved Black Hills, where beauty can grow once more. And in lieu of bouquets, please honor her life by planting roses or scattering wildflowers this spring.
