Obituary

Marvin Daniel Voss, 91 of Lead, SD, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on March 29, 2013.

Marvin was born on August 25, 1921 to Roy and Mary (Wescott) Voss in Faulkton, SD. He enlisted in the Navy and was sworn in on January 7, 1941 and discharged in September 1945.

He married Doris Hillmer on May 19, 1944. They lived in the Blunt, SD area before moving to Lead, in 1947 where he worked for Homestake Mining Co. In January 1953, they moved to Laramie, WY. He worked for the railroad there but returned to Homestake in January 1954 and retired in 1983. Doris passed in 1980 and Marvin married Betty Jean Heinen in 1981.

Marvin was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all. He enjoyed his family, watching John Wayne movies, reading and studying his bible. He loved his Tuesday morning bible study group who came and studied with him until the end.

Marvin's survived by his children, Delores (Gary) Starkman, Ely, MN, Pat (Jimmie) Derby, Lead, SD, Linda (Roger) Hanna, Deadwood, SD, Roy (Crystal) Voss, Laurel, MT, and Robyn Voss, Rapid City, SD; step-daughters, Linda (Ken) Whites and Jeannette (Randy) Langdon, both of Gillette, WY; 18 grand-children; 24 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; 15 step-grandchildren; 4 step-great-grandchildren; brother Harold (Irene) Voss, Rapid City, SD; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris; second wife Betty Jean; great-great-granddaughters, Niiah Dawn Rose Kendall and Averi Miracle Bunch; and step-daughter, Nicole "Nikki" (Butch) Bauer.

A special thank you to the Hospice of the Northern Hills for their loving care and support, especially Mavis, Randy and Krista. A very special thank you to Becky Derby for all the loving help and support she gave our Dad and Grandpa. Also thank you to Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel for all of the arrangements.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the Lead-Deadwood Memorial Chapel in Lead. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, April 5, 2013 at the Assembly of God Church in Lead with Pastor Paul Thompson officiating. A luncheon will follow the service at the church. Burial will take place at 1:30 P.M at Black Hills National Cemetery with military honors by the Spearfish Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Assembly of God Church and Hospice of the North Hills.
