Obituary

Martha B. Haag, 80, of Spearfish, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2009 at her home with family by her side.

Visitation will be from 6:00p.m. until 7:00p.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2009 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish, with Vigil services beginning at 7:00p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00a.m. on Monday, September 21, 2009 at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Spearfish, with Father Timothy Castor as Celebrant, burial will follow at 1:30p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD. Memorials will be given to Hospice of the Northern Hills.

Martha was born July 28, 1929 in New Hradec, ND. She's the daughter of the late John and Mary (Volesky) Holler. Martha grew up on her family's farm. At the age of 16, following the death of her mother, Martha assisted her father with the farm and the upbringing of her three younger siblings; Margaret, Roger, and Rita.

Martha's dream was to become a nun, but a different path led her to the love of her life. In 1951, Martha met Phillip C. Haag, of Dickinson, ND at a wedding dance. They later married on July 2, 1951 in New Hradec, and shortly after they moved to Norfolk, VA where Phil served in the Navy. After Phil's service they moved to Dickinson, ND for a brief period before settling in Lemmon, SD where they raised their four children. Phil's truck stop and Martha's café were operated for over 30 years and Martha's remarkable pies were legendary nation-wide.

In 1992 Phil and Martha retired in Spearfish where their remaining days were spent with family and friends.

Martha is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Phil. She is survived by her four children, Jackie (Les) Wolff, Lemmon, SD, Gene (Kate) Haag, Elbert, CO, Rodney (Janice) Haag, Blunt SD, Cindy (Chris) Adams, Fort Collins, CO, nine grandchildren, Brandon Haag, Fort Pierre, SD, Eric (Traci) Wolff, Billings, MT, Riley Haag Dallas, TX, Becky Haag, Elbert, CO, Jessica (Tyler) Hess, Hanscom AFB, MA, Erin Wolff, Spearfish, SD, Ali (Brent) Baloun, Sioux Falls, SD, Jacob Adams, Fort Collins, CO, Holly Adams, Fort Collins, CO , and three great-grandchildren Tyler and Trenton Hess and Lila Wolff.
