Martha Kathleen Clark, 90, passed away Sunday, September 5, 2010 at the Dorsett Regional Senior Care in Spearfish, SD.
Martha was born April 21, 1920 to James and Sarah (Taggart) Harris in Knox County, Indiana. She grew up on the family farm, attended grade school at Marco, Indiana and graduated from Sanborn High School in 1940.
She joined the US Army in 1942, assigned to the motor pool stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. She married James "Jimmie" Clark on January 26, 1945 at the home of her parents in Sanborn, Indiana. The couple made their home in Lead following their discharge from the Army.
Martha was a professional seamstress, making over fifty wedding dresses in her career. She taught sewing classes in night school, loved baking apple pies and cooking special event dinners for her family.
Martha is survived by her husband Jimmie Clark, two daughters; Colleen (Larry) Pierce Deadwood, SD and Kathie (Steven) Lawrence Pasadena, CA; grandchildren James (Jill) Pierce, Rapid City, SD Clancey (Jessey) Pullen, Deadwood, SD and Aaron (Julie) Lawrence, Pasadena, CA; four great-grandchildren Kadden and Kashton Dillman, Kingston Pullen all of Deadwood and Maya Lawrence, Pasadena, CA.
She is preceded in death by her great granddaughter Kendalyn Pullen, her parents James and Sarah, brother James, and six sisters Mary, Jamie, Opal, Twanette, Anna Mae and Josephine.
Graveside services will be held at 9:00 AM on Friday, September 10, 2010 at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to benefit the Women's Memorial Foundation or the Alzheimer's Research Association can be sent in care of the funeral home.
Martha will be missed greatly by her loving husband, daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
