Marrilyn Kay Russell, 75 of Spearfish, passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Spearfish Regional Hospital in Spearfish.
Marrilyn was born on February 23, 1937 to Don and Violet Mueller in Lead, SD. She graduated from Lead High School in 1955. She attended National College of Business and furthered her education at Black Hills State University. She married Robert "Bob" Russell in Lead on December 16, 1956. Their 55 years of marriage resulted in moves to Lead, Plankinton, Rapid City and finally Spearfish. She worked many years as a secretary, which led to her retirement from BHSU Fine Arts Department after more than 20 plus years of service.
Marrilyn had a great outlook on life. She was a loving wife, an amazing mother, and a friend for anyone who needed her. She loved to quilt, sew, garden, read, go to coffee with her family and friends, laugh and have fun with everyone around her. She had the most contagious laugh, one that everyone could recognize! Her home was always open to everyone. She established many family traditions such as chocolate chip cookies, hot caramel rolls for Christmas morning, Santa's treasure chest waiting to be opened by the grandchildren and the never ending bedtime stories that nobody could tell quite like Grandma. After three long years of courageous fighting, she is now pain free and at peace. We Love you.
Marrilyn is survived by her husband Bob of Spearfish; children, Val (Tom) Olson of Norfolk, NE, Wanda Russell of Spearfish, Mark (Stacey) Russell of Spearfish, Becky (Steve) Harshman of Casper, WY and Scott (Annette) Russell of Casper, WY; thirteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Don (Arlene) Mueller of Lead, Billy Mueller of Rapid City and best friend and sister, Judy (Bob) Smith of Castle Rock, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Gina Mueller.
