Marylynn Belmont, 70 of Spearfish, passed away on June 8, 2016 after living with the progressive disability MS.
Marlynn Kay Belmont was born on May 9, 1946 in Deadwood, SD, to George Albert and Leola (Livona) Schieke. Graduating from Lead High School in 1964, she attended Black Hills State College where she majored in education.
Marlynn taught 17 years at the elementary and middle school levels for the Lead-Deadwood School System. Remembered by many a student for her sense of humor and a teaching style that brought out the best in a student, she was also an avid sports booster. She taught tennis and other summer sports for Lead Recreation programs and was Lead's Girl Athlete of the Year.
Marlynn is survived by her three sons, George (Kelley) of Pelham, AL; Brian (Patricia) of Lee, NH; Mark (Alicia) of Creston, OH; her mother, Leola Schieke, of Lead, SD; brothers, Greg (Mary) Schieke of Hickman, NE and Norman Schieke of Tacoma, WA; six grandchildren, Kirstie and Grey, Hannah and Mackenzie, Macey and Maddex and two nieces . She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Glenn Schieke.
She faced her challenge bravely, spending the past eight years bedridden at the Dorsett home. At her request there will be no services. Interment will take place for the family at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of the Lead-Deadwood Memorial Chapel in Lead.
