Obituary

Marjorie Jane Morcom, 91, longtime Lead resident, died peacefully October 28, 2016 at the Dorsett Healthcare Center in Spearfish.
Marge was born January 19, 1925 in Watertown, SD to William and Gladys Amacher. Her hometown of Castlewood, SD was always special to her.
After graduation from Castlewood High School as Valedictorian in 1943, she attended SDSU, where she graduated cum laude and received a triple major in Journalism, History, and Political Science.
At SDSU, Marge was Editor of the "Jack Rabbit," the SDSU yearbook. She was involved in many activities, which included the Rifle Team; Union Board; Board of Activities Control; Guidon; the Senior Honors Group, Mortar Board; and was named Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. She was passionate about photography and spent many hours as a student photographer, and it was in the dark room where she met her future husband, Jack Morcom. In 1948, they were married. They lived the next 56 years in Lead and Spearfish Canyon.
Marge worked at their store, Morcom's Ladies Apparel, for 23 years. She lived a life of service and was active in many religious, fraternal, and educational organizations: United Methodist Church, Beta Sigma Phi, PEO, Eastern Star (70 year member), Job's Daughters, AAW, St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary, Lead Beautification Committee, Chamber of Commerce, and Meals on Wheels. Marge led a rich life, full of strong faith and love of family and friends. She enjoyed a good cup of black coffee, nice conversation, family history, and a great book or newspaper. Marge and Jack enjoyed 66 years of marriage and "having people in" to enjoy conversation and friendship.
Marge is survived by her son, Bob (Cathy), Spearfish, SD; daughter, Barbara (Bob), Casper, WY; granddaughter, Maggie Matson Larson (Matthew), Minneapolis, MN; grandson, Jens Matson (Maria), Portland, OR, and sister, Mary Amacher, Aberdeen, SD.
