Marjorie Muriel Myrle (Tarabetz) Miller

Marjorie Muriel Myrle Tarabetz was born April 30, 1922 to Louis Edward and Gladys Agnes (Woodraska) Tarabetz at the farm in Richland Township, Brule County, South Dakota she attended rural school at Richland Township, ninth grade at Bendon High School and graduated from Kimball High School in 1940. After graduation she held jobs including caretaker for Grandma Olson, worked at Bills Café, Swedes & Kernies Bar and Derby Café while living in Chamberlain, SD.

Marjorie met Russell Wilson Miller in 1940 in Pukwana, SD. On September 5, 1943 while Russell was on leave from serving in Europe during World War II, they were married in Uba City, CA. After living in Uba City they moved to Brownville, Texas when his unit was transferred. Marjorie worked at Uba City Ford Garage and while in Texas in a Café. While Russell served In Germany, Marjorie moved to her parent's home. Roger was born in 1944. After Russell was discharged, they moved to Chamberlain for the rest of her life. Sheila was born in 1948 and Louie in 1956. Marjorie worked for Brule-Buffalo County Agricultural Stabilization Conservation office and retired after 35 years. She managed the hospital & Home Gift shop for 25 years. She was a Life time member of: Chamberlain, SD Chamber of Commerce, Lake Frances Case Development Corporation, American Legion Auxiliary, member of United Church of Christ, Travelers Club, Royal Neighbors, Know your Neighbor Extension Club, Eight and Forty, and La Femmes. Marjorie served as president, secretary, treasurer and most chairmanships in all of these organizations. She also was the Parade Chairman of Chamberlain Centennial Celebration in 1980. While at the David Dorsett Healthcare Center in Spearfish, SD, she was voted resident of the month December 2012 and currently President of the Residential Council.

Marjorie never missed any activities of her precious children. Everyone she met she treasured. Children, family and friends often visited her for a good game of cards. After her stroke, she painted many rocks with her left hand and gave them to all of her cherished family and friends.

Marjorie passed away peacefully on August 23, 2014 at the David Dorsett Healthcare Center. Gratefully sharing her life are her children Roger of Crete NE. Sheila and husband Terry Powell of Spearfish SD, grandchildren; Rhonda McMichael (Ty) of Juneau Alaska, Michelle Arbuckle (Jess) of McPherson KS, Holly Miller of Crete NE and Jason Powell (Tanya) of Spearfish great- grandchildren; Tyffany Johnson (Dustin) of Rapid City, SD, Danielle Dixon (Tyler) of Germany, Autumn and Tyler McMichael of Juneau Alaska, Raelyn and Jeremy Krebiel of McPherson, KS, Tyler White of Las Vegas, NV, Brian, Amber and Sabrina Reed of Crete NE and Alexis & Jacob Powell of Spearfish and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Russell, son Louie, sisters, Marlys Ryan and Mae Reimer, brothers, Miroy (Terry) Tarabetz and infant Walter, nephew Robert Ryan, brother-in-law Jim Ryan.


Visitation will be Tuesday August 26, 2014 from 5-7:00 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel, Spearfish, SD
Funeral services will be Wednesday August 27, 2014 at 10:00 United Church of Christ, Spearfish, SD burial will follow at 12:30 Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, SD

A second service will be held Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 10:00 C.S.T. at the United Church of Christ, Chamberlain, SD.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
