Funeral Service
Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels & Isburg Crematory
Starts at 10:00 am
Marilyn "Marly" Elaine Mechaley, 76, of Spearfish, South Dakota, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on March 1, 2026. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Marly lived a life rooted in love, faith, and unwavering dedication to her family. Her presence was steady, her spirit generous, and her love the foundation upon which her family stood.
Marly was born on June 1, 1949, in Kadoka, South Dakota, to John and Velma (Parke) Drabek. She grew up in Kadoka, where she met the love of her life, Joseph “Joe” Glenn Mechaley. They were married on November 15, 1967, in Rapid City, South Dakota, and together built a beautiful life centered on their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren — a partnership that spanned nearly six decades and stood as a testament to enduring love.
She was a woman whose love knew no limits. Fiercely loyal and deeply devoted, she centered her life around her family and never hesitated to show up when she was needed. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her greatest joy, and she carried a steady, unwavering commitment to her husband, her family, and her closest friends. Her integrity was quiet but absolute — doing the right thing wasn’t something she talked about; it was simply how she lived. To be loved by her was to feel protected, supported, and truly known.
She found peace and happiness in the beauty of the outdoors. Whether hiking long trails, walking beneath open skies, or embracing adventure in earlier years on snowmobiles, she felt most at home surrounded by nature. She appreciated the simple, enduring beauty of the world around her, and that same steady beauty lived within her. Her strength, warmth, and boundless love will continue to guide those who were blessed to call her theirs.
She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Joe Mechaley; her children, Shane (Kristi) Mechaley of West Fargo, North Dakota, Mitchell (Joanna) Mechaley of Spearfish, South Dakota, and Tara Carter of Spring Creek, Nevada; her grandchildren, Alison, Talia, Jordan, Mattison “Rose,” Connor, Gage, Killian, Keston, Brooklyn, and Jalyn; her great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Charlie, Ellie, Fynlee, and Anthony “Tony”; her brothers, Richard (Joyce) Drabek and Robert (Beverly) Drabek; her sisters, Irene (Philip) Hansen and Margaret Thomas; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends whose lives were forever touched by her love.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Velma Drabek; her son, Anthony “Tony” Mechaley; and her sister, Iola Kezar.
Marly’s favorite color was purple, a color she wore and loved often. In her honor, attendees are encouraged to wear purple as a simple reflection of the joy and beauty she brought into the lives of so many.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered prayers, support, and kindness during this time.
