Marilyn Adamson, 88 of Spearfish, passed away on Monday, October 27, 2014 at the David M. Dorsett Healthcare Center.
Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish with the family present. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, October 31, 2014 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Spearfish with Pastor Stephan Sandness officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to benefit Burr's Tender Care.
Marilyn was born on May 15, 1926 in Brookings, SD to George and Mary (Hoerber) Steinlicht. She graduated from Brookings High School, where she was active in band and orchestra. On June 9, 1946 she married her high school sweetheart Royal Adamson in Kennewick, Washington upon his discharge from the Navy. They returned to Brookings to begin their married life.
She was involved in many activities in her life including Fireman's Auxiliary, Ladies Aide, bible study and teaching Sunday school. She was also a den mother for her children's Cub Scout and Brownie Scout activities. She also served as secretary and bookkeeper for her husband, Royal's floor covering business. She never missed a parent teacher conference of her children, education and church were important to her.
She was an accomplished artist concentrating in watercolor and acrylic painting. She shared many of her award winning pieces with family and friends. In her later years she enjoyed writing a children's book with her great-granddaughter as the illustrator. She attended as many school events as possible for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marilyn and Royal moved to Arvada, Colorado in 1969 to pursue business opportunities and later moved to Belle Fourche, SD upon retirement.
She is survived by her children, Paul (Patricia) Adamson, Kathe (Lloyd) Shockey, David Adamson, Glenda (Leonard) Skovly and Dale Adamson; nine grandchildren, Craig and Michael Adamson, Teri Shockey, Janelle Gusso, Nicholas and Jenna Adamson, Ron Skovly, Jolene Barnett and Martin Skovly; eleven great-grandchildren, Rachel, Griffin and Chole Adamson, Jazmine and Joseph Adamson, Madison Ulin, Drew and Sydney Gusso, Hannah Jo Skovly, Trey and Bently Barnett; and sisters-in-law, Donna Werner and Mary Adamson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Royal of 59 years and an infant sister, Mavis.
