Obituary

Marguerite (Peg) Wham, 103 of Moorcroft, Wyoming was born July 17,1906 at their farm home near Alliance, NE, the daughter of George and Nellie Maude (Emory) West. She passed away Saturday, April 17, 2010.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Presbyterian Church in Moorcroft, WY, with Pastor Donavon Voigt officiating. Burial will follow at the Moorcroft Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to Pine Ridge Church or a church of your choice.

The family traveled to Hot Springs, SD where she attended elementary school. In search of work, her father and oldest brother traveled by horse-drawn wagon, finally arriving in Ollie, MT where they ran a dray service. Peg, her mother and brothers followed by train.

They moved to Baker, MT where she completed her education. Peg worked as a telephone operator and later served as Deputy Treasurer for the city of Baker. She met the love of her life, James Wham, who was the manager of Sawyers Store. They were married in 1929 and transferred to Glendive, MT where their two children were born.

In 1933 they moved to the EVA Ranch on Beaver Creek near Newcastle, WY. She adapted to ranch life, living in a one room, log dance hall where she hung sheets to divide their home into separate rooms. This city lady gathered cow manure to chink the cracks to keep out the cold, snow and rain. During hard times they endured, she gained strength beyond reality.

The family moved to the Brandt Place near Moorcroft, WY in 1941 and purchased the Thompson Place in 1947 where they lived until 1957 when they went to live with her father-in-law nearby after her mother-in-law passed away.

She devoted years of caring for her family, her grandchildren and great grandchildren who cherish those wonderful memories. She was always considerate of others and when there was a need, she was the first to step in to help, whether it was preparing things or moving into their home during the stressful time.

Following in the footsteps of her mother and mother-in-law who were specialists in tailoring and sewing, she enjoyed creating many items including dish towels and afghans for special gifts. During the past five years she assisted in designing over 90 afghans. Many hours were spent lovingly reminiscing about the adventures as she captivated the children's attention with her stories. She loved to have fresh cookies for anyone who stopped by but was very pleased to serve homemade hominy and other unusual foods for the threshing crew.

Survivors include her daughter, Edith Shepherd, Moorcroft, WY, son James D.(Coral)Wham,Jr, of Coonabarabran, Australia; grandchildren Peggy (Robert) Jespersen, Jim (Teressa) Wood, Mary (Terry) McKillip all of Moorcroft, WY, Johnny (Becky) Wood, Duncan, OK, Aaron Wood, Sarasota, FL, Scott Wham, Lake Mary, FL, Julie (David) Morrissey, Tracey Howard, Jamie Wham, Kylie Wham, all of Australia; great grandchildren: Shele Tschetter, Del Rio, TX, D'Ann (Jamie) Cord, Des Moines, IA, Shane.
