Obituary

Margie Teigen, 82, formerly of Lead, South Dakota, passed away on October 3, 2019, in Riverside, CA. Margie was born in 1937 in Spearfish, SD to the late Nell and Axel Beckman, of Lead.

After graduating from Lead High School in 1956, Margie married her high school sweetheart, Sherman, in 1957. She started their marriage working in the office of Dr. Stormo and, later, she supported Sherman during his teaching career and the beginnings of many business adventures while raising their two children. They built, operated and subsequently sold, the Alpine Drive Inn. After selling the Drive Inn they embarked on another adventure developing Deer Mountain Campground and then Deer Mountain Ski Area. Finally, the Alpine Ski Rental was also established.

One of the most memorable times in her life was owning and operating In Phoebe's Closet, with her dear friend, Snooky Raetz. The clothing store opened in 1984 in Lead, then later moved to the Twin City Mall, also in Lead. When Twin City Mall closed its doors, the ladies moved their business to Deadwood. She immensely enjoyed the challenges and friendships she made throughout her years in business. Her quick wit and smile will be missed.

Margie is survived by her sister and brother-in-law; Jean and Gene Carter, of Texas; her son and daughter-in-law; Mark Teigen and Valentina Valente, of San Diego, CA; her daughter, Tracy Medina, of Riverside CA. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Haley and Jada Medina.

A graveside service is planned at the Mountain Lawn Cemetery in Lead, SD. Due to the severe weather in the area, her southern Californian, thin-skinned children have decided to postpone this service until late spring.

Cards or condolences may be sent to Tracy Medina, 5225 Canyon Crest Drive, Ste 71-286, Riverside, CA 92507. Please make donations in support of breast cancer research in lieu of sending flowers.

Arrangements are under the care of the Lead-Deadwood Memorial Chapel in Lead. Online condolences may be written at www.fidler-isburgfuneralchapels.com
