Obituary

Margaret Elizabeth Stevens, 87, passed away on June 12, 2015 at her home in Tucson, Arizona.

Margaret was born on August 17, 1927 in Winfred, SD to Glenn and Alice (Winegard) Potter. Margaret graduated from Madison High School and attended college in Madison receiving her Teaching Certificate.

On December 8, 1945 she married Kenneth Earl Stevens of Argonne, SD in the Howard Courthouse. They lived five miles east of Carthage, SD where she was the first teacher for the Pearl Creek Hutterite Colony. They moved to Lead, SD in 1950 when Kenneth was employed with Homestake Mining Company. Margaret worked at JC Penney's and was active in Lawrence County Extension Club. When Kenneth retired in 1984, they began spending winters in Tucson, AZ, moving there full time in 2001.

Those grateful for having shared her life include her children, Barbara (David) Hurne of Carthage, SD, Stephen (Barbara) Stevens of Yuma AZ, Terry (Christine) Stevens of Tucson, AZ, Laurie (Mike) Asmussen of Salt Lake City, UT and Teresa (Chuck) Burke of Rush, CO; 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren; brother, Leonard (Joan) Potter of Presho, SD and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; son, Glenn; grandson, Nathan Stevens; parents, Glenn and Alice Potter; two brothers, Jesse Potter (infant) and Jesse L Potter.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Lead, SD followed by internment at Mountain Lawn Cemetery in Lead. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contribution to the Trinity United Methodist Church of Lead.
