Obituary

Margaret (Withee) Porter, 89 of Spearfish, went to be with Jesus on May, 2 2012.

She was born on May 15, 1922 to Lewis and Nellie (Peck) Withee near Wessington Springs, SD, the second of nine children. She moved with her family to Rapid City, SD in 1934. She graduated from Rapid City High School in 1940 and attended Wessington Springs Junior College. She then went to work at Douglas Aircraft and Leach Relay Companies in Los Angeles, CA during World War II.

She gave her heart to Jesus when she was fifteen and loved and served Him the rest of her life. She dearly loved and prayed for all of her family through the years. She married Floyd Ketchem in 1944. To this union three children were born; Elaine, Steve and Lois. In 1974 she married Howard Porter and moved to Spearfish, this gave her nine step-children.

She was a part of Christian Women's Club and Friendship Bible Coffee and had an active part in the Hillsview Nazarene Church. After Howard retired in 1979, they joined Mobile Missionary Assistance Program and did volunteer work with them for seven winters in the south. They delivered home delivered meals and other volunteer work in the community.

Margaret is survived by her children Elaine (Mike) Moore, Homosassa, FL, Steve Ketchem, Libby MT and Lois (Rex) Burgher, Harrisburg, PA; step-children Mary (Bill) Beamish, WA, Christine (David) McElroy, MD, Ransom (Karen) Porter, WA, Carol (John) Jordan, OK, LeDair (Rachelle) Porter, Mt. Vernon, WA, and William (Vickie) Porter, Spearman TX; brother, Don (Betty Lee) Withee; sisters, Hazel Clow, Hope (Don) Scandrett and LaVonne (Ramon) Youngs all of Rapid City; four grandchildren and fourteen step-grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Howard in 1999; parents; sisters, Betty and Lunelle; brothers, Warren and Glenn; step-son John Porter and step-daughter Celeste Langer; and step-granddaughter Becky.

Visitation will be from 4PM - 6 PM on Friday, May 4, 2012 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Hillsview Church of the Nazarene in Spearfish. A memorial has been established to the Hillsview Church of the Nazarene and the Rapid City Free Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.
