Margaret K. Peterson, 103, died Monday, January 12, 2015 at her daughter's home in Spearfish, SD.
Emma Margaret Kittelson was born to Charles J. and Clara J. (Berg) Kittelson December 31, 1911 at home in Lake Park, MN, the third of ten children. She moved with her family to Ballantine, MT in 1916. She graduated from Huntley High School in 1929 and from Montana State College in Bozeman in 1934 with a degree in Home Economics. While attending school in Bozeman, she met Everett O. Peterson. They were married in Billings, MT on May 31, 1935.
She was a member of the United Methodist-American Baptist Federated Church. She taught the Kindergarten class for 40 years. She served on several boards of the church including Christian Education and Trustees. She was a member of the UM-AB Women and was the White Cross coordinator for many years.
She was also the Girl Scout Cookie Coordinator for many years. She was honored as a 50-year member of the AAUW (before the Hamilton chapter disbanded), as a 70-year alumnae of MSC/Bozeman in 2004, and as a 50-year member of PEO in 2004. She was unable to travel in 2014 to attend the 80-year class reunion and the 60-year honor for PEO.
She will be remembered as a quiet and gentle laborer for her Lord, Jesus Christ. She sewed many articles of clothing and knitted many sweaters, caps, mittens, and Barbie doll dresses for her family and for the White Cross offerings. She also crafted many inspirational banners for her church. She loved learning. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. She loved to spend time with God and especially spend time in her garden of flowers marveling at all of the beauty and variety God has created. She enjoyed the beauty and bounty that each season had to offer. She enjoyed going places. She loved her family and friends and covered them in prayers. She enjoyed watching sports of all kinds: football, basketball, track and baseball as the kids grew up. She still enjoyed listening to Hamilton football and basketball games and watching football, basketball, baseball and Olympic Games on TV, as well as figure skating.
When she stopped driving, she was blessed with friends who would give her rides to church, the airport, meetings, concerts, plays and the grocery store. Thank you everyone for all of your love and kindnesses bestowed on her. She will miss you. May God richly bless you all!
