Obituary

Margaret Jean Davis was born on November 10, 1935 to Glen Sr and Anna Davis in Airlie, Oregon. She joined a family of eight being the youngest and last child. Harry, Glen Jr, Frank, Roy, Ida, Betty, Mary, Lee and then Margaret.

Margaret would talk about many adventures growing up on the farm, from digging thistles, keeping the wood box full for the cook stove to wandering the hills that were being logged by her dad and brothers behind the house. It was three miles into Airlie to catch the bus for school, Anna would take them in the car in the morning then they would walk home in the evening with the neighbor kids. Always such fun to play and goof off on the three mile walk home.

She talked about sleeping upstairs in the big house, first in a room with Ida and then with Betty. After those two left home, then she had her own room. That just left Mary, Lee and Margaret at home. She said Mary and Lee would go to the neighbors to play and leave her home alone so she got good at keeping herself occupied. Before the war they went to school in Airlie. When the war started and Camp Adair was established and took over a lot of the ground in the area they were sent by bus to Independence for school.

When Margaret was 16 years old her dad died of a logging accident. They then sold the farm in Airlie and Anna, Lee and Margaret moved into Monmouth, Oregon. The house in Monmouth was such a big house that Anna started boarding college girls that were going to school at what was then called OCE. There are many of those girls that still keep in touch and we see them every once in a while.

Margaret met LeRoy Meyer soon after she moved to Monmouth and they were married on June 12, 1954.They lived for a short time in Albany Oregon before moving to Falls City, Oregon to a place at the end of Perry Rd. LeRoy was then drafted into the Army and was in California and Texas. Margaret was with him there and a daughter, Laura Lee, was born January 26, 1958 in California at Fort Ord.

After discharge from the Army the little family of three moved into the place on Black Rock Road Halloween night 1958. In March 1960, Jeffery Loran was born then Brian LeRoy came along in December of 1961.

Margaret was a stay at home mom having the difficult job of raising the kids and keeping the cow milked and the animals fed while LeRoy worked swing shift at the Willamette Industries plywood plant in Dallas. Once the kids were out on their own Margaret then went to work at the Dallas retirement home as a housekeeper.

Margaret and LeRoy both retired January 1996, sold Story Book Farm and moved to West Salem. They had nearly 20 years of retirement together working around the place, in the shop together or taking many trips to the beach in their camper.

Margaret was preceded in death by her many siblings, her husband LeRoy Meyer, their daughter Laura Lee Burke (Tim) their son Brian Meyer and grandson Allen Burke.

Margaret is survived by her son Jeffery Meyer (Kim); granddaughters Molli Giager-Meyer (Jennifer), Kasandra Meyer, Heather King (Joe); grandson Stephen Burke (Veronica); great-grandsons, Conner King, Wyatt King; great-granddaughter Eleanor King and many nieces and nephews.
