Obituary

Margaret "Peggy" Heinzerling, 82 of Spearfish, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday, September 9, 2010.

Visitation will be from 2:00-6:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, September 13, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Spearfish with Pastor Dar Berkenpas officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. A memorial has been established to benefit the United Methodist Church or Hospice of the Northern Hills.

Peggy was born on August 23, 1928 to Percival and Hazel (Bishop) Wade in Warren County, IA. She lived there until she moved to rural Miller, SD in 1944 where she attended Miller High School, graduating in 1946. She attended Black Hills Teachers College in Spearfish, receiving her certificate in 1946. She taught school at Bingham
School in rural Miller for 2 years. In 1945 she met and dated James Merlin Heinzerling during their senior year of high school. They were married May 24th 1948 at the United Methodist Church in Miller. To this union six children were born. They lived and farmed in north-east Hand County, SD until 1987 when they moved to Spearfish. As well as working on the farm she worked as a bus driver, restaurant cook, columnist for the Miller Press, cashier and administrative assistant.

Peggy was an active member of the Beulah Community Church in Hand County, and the United Methodist Churchs in Miller and Spearfish. Peggy served on many committees, giving her time and dedication to the churches. She has been a compassionate volunteer for Hospice of the Northern Hills since 2000. She also enjoyed gardening, local stock car racing, Nascar racing and tractor pulls, book clubs, traveling, visiting family and being a part of all of her children's and grandchildren's activites.

Survivors include her sons, James (Cheryl) Heinzerling of Highlands Ranch, CO, Terry (Shelley) Heinzerling of Parker, CO; daughters Kay (Ervin) Reister of Chadron, NE, Debrah Geelsdottir of St. Paul MN, Tamara (Mike) Skaare and Jill (Terry) Van't Hul both of Rapid City; brother Arthur Wesley "Wes" Wade of Barnett, MO; sister Rita Wood of Eldon, MO; sister-in law Nancy Kelley of Huron, SD; 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
