Obituary

Margaret Lucille Ellsbury, 88 of Sundance, Wyoming passed away peacefully Sunday, June 3, 2018, following a day spent at home surrounded by her family, including all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Margaret was born June 12, 1929 in Crook County, Wyoming in the home of her parents, Hugh and Louise (Moller) Kokesh. She grew up on the Kokesh Ranch south of Sundance. Margaret attended a country school and then Sundance High School, where she was chosen the homecoming queen, and later graduated in 1947.

In 1948, Margaret met her one and only true love, Tracy Ellsbury. They wed in 1950 at Margaret's family's ranch. They then moved into their home on the Ellsbury Ranch, where they lived for 63 years, and began their ranching career. Tracy and Margaret had two sons, Norman in 1956 and David in 1959.

Margaret was active in her community, giving of her time and supporting such organizations as the Aladdin Homemakers, the Crook County Cattle Women, and the Friends of the Library. She served as the treasurer of the Crook County Cattle Women for 31 years and treasurer of the Friends of the Library also for many years and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, maintaining one of the most beautiful yards in the county, baking (including chocolate chip cookies loved by her grandchildren and many others), reading, bowling with Tracy, and spending time with her family.

Margaret is survived by her sisters, Julia England, Creta Minor, and Bertha Feeley; her son David, wife Beth of Sundance; grandson Levi, wife Kara, children Ella and Livia of Sundance; grandson Morgan, wife Jenna, children Ember and Evie of Sundance; grandson Colter, wife Sarah, children Lyman, Ridley, and Mattie of Sundance; granddaughter Whitney Stull, husband Jeff, and their child Ruby of Sundance. She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings Freddie, Winona, James, Charles, Arthur, and Joe; her husband Tracy; and her oldest son Norman.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Spearfish with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made in Margaret's honor to the Friends of the Library to support the efforts of the Crook County Library to continue to spread the joy of reading to the community and to grow a love of reading in the children of Crook County.
