Obituary

Mable A. Povandra, 92 of Spearfish died Sunday, January 11, 2009 at Burr's Tender Care in Spearfish.

Visitation will be from 3-7 P.M., Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, January 15, 2009 at the funeral home with Reverend Tom Campbell officiating.

A memorial has been established to benefit the American Diabetes Association. Condolences may be sent to: 340 Hillsview Drive, Spearfish, SD 57783.

Mable Anna Smith was born in Springfield, SD on November 29, 1916 to Charles A. and Aleta M. (Rehder) Smith. Mable went to country school and graduated from Springfield High School. She went on to obtain her teaching certificate from Springfield Teachers College and taught for a few years before marrying Charles A. Povandra on July 27, 1936. To this union a son was born, William Charles "Bill".

She stayed at home during Bill's early years before going to work for Sunshine Dairy making ice cream and doing many odd jobs including being a bookkeeper. For a short time she was also a bookkeeper at Spearfish Lumber Company.

She and Charley spent many years scouring the countryside for antiques - dishes and cars to name a few items. They also loved to spend time fishing at Orman Dam.

She was a life long member of the Modern Mother's Club. She was also a member of the Spearfish Senior Center and Spearfish Model T Club.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles & Aleta; her husband, Charles; her brother, Ray "Bud"; her sisters, Elsie Robbins and Marian "Arlene" Sunderlin.

She is survived by her son, Bill and his wife, Shirley of Spearfish, SD; grandson, Brian and his wife, Ashley of Rapid City, SD. Also surviving are several cousins, including Bernice Dobesh of Spearfish, SD and Velissa Wipf of Freeman, SD; nephews, Ray Robbins, Dennis Povondra, Don Cuka and Raymond Cuka; nieces, Beverly Bergen, Patty Munger, Beatrice Cowman, Coleen Lee, Ramona Woodard, Marjorie Shore, Mary Ann Kostel and Chubby Petersen and numerous great nieces and nephews.
