Lyda June Smith, 85 formerly of Lead and St. Onge, passed away July 5, 2021, in her home in Arizona.
Lyda was born Lyda June Tetrault in the ranch home in St. Onge, SD. She attended various grammar schools from St. Onge to Pocatello Idaho. She attended high school in Lead, SD where she met her future husband. They were inseparable until her death. Lyda graduated from St. Johns school of nursing in Rapid City, as a registered nurse, working in that field for many years after graduation. Upon nursing school graduation (one was not allowed to be married and go to school there) she married LeRoy on June 9, 1958, in the then St. Onge Catholic Church. In 1959 the couple moved to Seattle, WA. They lived there until 1995 when they retired, and subsequently moved to Arizona.
Besides her family, which was always the most important to her, she loved to hand embroidery when idle time presented and when traveling. Her embroidery gifts were loved by all.
She is survived by her husband, LeRoy, her daughter Lorel, her son Kevin and two grandchildren Eric and Danielle and one great-grandchild Issac. Lyda was preceded in death by her father Alphonse, her mother Helen and her sister Laura Mae Christensen.
Lyda has returned to her home in St. Onge, being interned in the St Onge Cemetery, less than a mile from where she was born.
Arrangements are under the care of the Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Isburg Crematory of Spearfish. Online condolences may be written at www.fidler-isburgfuneralchapels.com
