Lucinda "Cindy" Forbus Niesar 77, of Spearfish, SD formerly of Wilton and Minot ND, died May 25, 2014 from complications of lung cancer.
Cindy was born September 12, 1936 in Monson, Maine to Max and Dorothy Forbus. In 1952 at 16 years old, she graduated valedictorian from Monson Academy. She later enlisted in the U. S. Air Force where she met Max E. Niesar Jr. at Eglan Air Force Base, Florida. They married on December 20, 1958. Moving from Florida to Maryland, Cindy had her first daughter, Sherry in 1961. Rebecca, her second daughter was born in 1969 in South Ruislip, England.
Cindy was a full time wife and mother, living the life of a military wife, moving from base to base. They lived in North Carolina, South Carolina, Germany, England, Massachusetts, Maine, Colorado, North Dakota, New Hampshire and California enjoying the rich culture of each new location.
Cindy and Max relocated to Minot where Max retired from the Air Force. Cindy worked in Federal Service as a Housing Specialist until she retired in 1998. She enjoyed working with military personnel and helping them find housing both on and off the base.
Upon retirement, both she and her husband, Max enjoyed traveling, especially to the Black Hills of South Dakota. They made many friends in the area, enjoyed the picturesque landscape and milder climate. In 2011, Cindy and Max relocated, living briefly in Wilton, they moved to Spearfish, the community they had enjoyed in their travels. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed her beautiful flowers. Cindy attended Countryside Community Church in Spearfish.
Cindy loved her family, children and grandchildren very much. Cindy is survived by her husband, Max, her daughters, Sherry Niesar (Peter Wax) and Rebecca Edwards (Dennis) and four grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 12:00 P.M. on May 30, 2014 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. Refreshments will be served at The Lodge in Deadwood at 1:00 pm.
