Obituary

Lucille Nickel, 87 of Spearfish died Friday, September 21, 2012 at her home.

Lucille "Cele" was born on December 8, 1924 to Matthew and Frances (Berhendt) Cremer in Spencer, SD. She attended her early education in Farmer, SD and graduated from Spencer High School in 1943. She married Calvin Nickel on June 8, 1943 in Farmer. The couple made their home in Spencer for several years. They moved to Spearfish in 1950 and together they owned and operated the Arrowhead Bar for 17 years, retiring in 1974.

Lucille enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and gardening. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.


Survivors include her children, Dean (Donna) Nickel of Gillette, WY; Mary (Jim) Johnsrud of McKinney, TX; and Beth Zimmerman of Spearfish; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Mary Cremer, Evelyn Coleman, Leonard Cremer, Dolores Singer and Robert Cremer; and her husband Calvin in 1992.

Vigil Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Spearfish. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at St. Jospeh with Msgr Michael Woster as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. A memorial has been established to benefit St. Joseph's Building Fund.
