Louella Lindsay Anderson, 97, of Derry, PA (previously Spearfish, SD) died November 3, 2014 at her daughter's home in PA.

Born on a farm near Wayne, NE on July 2, 1917 to Stella and John Lindsay, Louella attended several rural schools and graduated from Wayne High School in 1935. She attended Wayne State Teachers College and received a one-year certificate in May 1936 before teaching in a rural school. After earning her two-year certificate in Jan 1940, Louella taught second grade in Alma, NE where she met Fred W.W. Anderson, the high school principal and teacher. They were engaged December 20, 1941 before Fred enlisted in the U.S. Marines. They were married August 29, 1942 in the Methodist Church parsonage in New Bern, NC. While in New Bern, Louella worked at J.C. Penney's and at a lawyer's office. Following Fred's deployment to the Pacific, Louella returned to Nebraska and worked for Union Pacific in Omaha. On Fred's return they moved to Cairo and and then Cambridge, NE, where he continued work as a school administrator. Daughters Barbara and Lorraine were born during these years.


In 1962, the family moved to Springfield, SD where Fred taught at Southern State College. During this time, Louella desired to continue her education, and while Fred taught summer school at Black Hills State College, she enrolled in classes and graduated with a BA in 1963. She taught two years in Tyndall, SD, and when the family moved permanently to Spearfish, Louella taught third grade at West Elementary for 20 years. During this time she spent five summers taking graduate classes at BHSC and earned her Master's degree in 1968. Louella loved being a wife and mother and caring for her family. She was active in her church and P.E.O. In retirement, Fred and Louella enjoyed square dancing, spending the winters in Arizona and gathering their family together for memorable visits.
Louella was preceded in death by her husband,her parents and her five siblings. She is survived by her daughters Barbara (Ken) Coddington of Littleton CO; Lorraine (Fran) Burd of Derry, PA; four grandchildren and three great-granddaughters; Matthew (Michele) Coddington of Sonoma, CA and their daughter Ella; Steven Coddington of Littleton, CO; Nicole (Mark) Wolfgang of Latrobe, PA and their daughters Abigail and Elise; Lindsay Burd of Derry, PA and numerous nieces and nephews.
