Obituary

Lorraine C. Newberry, 91 of Spearfish, passed away on December 16, 2016.

Lorraine C. Newberry was born in Courtenay, North Dakota on July 20, 1925 to Waldemar and Hattie Anderson.

She later moved to Jamestown, North Dakota where she graduated from Jamestown High School in 1943 and from Jamestown College in 1947 with a degree in teaching.

She and Lyle Newberry were married on August 3rd, 1948. They lived in Toledo, Ohio for a short time before returning to Jamestown.

Lorraine was very active in her community including being a member of the local school board and later teaching English at Jamestown High School.

She and Lyle moved to San Rafael, California in 1972 sharing many wonderful years until Lyle's passing in 1983.

Lorraine moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas in 1993 to be near her sister, Lucile Aasmundstad. She continued to be very involved in her church, PEO, and various community opportunities.

Lorraine moved to Spearfish, South Dakota in February of 2015 to be near her daughter. She quickly made wonderful friends at Sandstone Manor where she flourished until her passing.

She loved to read, travel (including trips to Spain, Portugal, Israel, Egypt, Norway, and Sweden), and to cook and bake; being well known for her almond roca.

The following are grateful to have shared in her life: her son, Jeff Newberry (Deb), daughter, Jan Shirley (Jon), five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; her sister, Lucile Aasmundstad and several nieces and nephews.

Her final resting place will be in Courtenay, North Dakota. Memorium, in the name of Lorraine Newberry, may be sent to:
