IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lorraine
Aberle
July 8, 1930 – June 3, 2024
Lorraine Shirley Aberle, 93, of Spearfish, SD, passed away June 3, 2024 at Edgewood Vista Senior Living surrounded by family.
Lorraine was born in Bowman, ND, on July 8, 1930 to Rose and Edgar (Jerry) Manning. The family moved to Belle Fourche, SD in 1943 and Lorraine graduated from Belle Fourche High School in 1948. While in Belle Fourche, Lorraine sold tickets for the theater. During one of her shifts, she met Wendy Aberle and eventually agreed to go to a dance with him. Lorraine always said that Wendy was a great dancer and they married on June 30, 1948. The couple moved to Deadwood in 1948 and later moved to Lead where they raised their family until moving to Spearfish upon their retirement.
Lorraine worked at Homestake Gold Mine in the safety department and her hobbies included hosting large family gatherings, baking, bowling and golf. Lorraine was a passionate fan of the Black Hills State University sports teams and rarely missed a basketball game either in-person or on TV. While living in Lead, Lorraine and Wendy enjoyed attending their children's and grandchildren's activities as well as dancing at the Moose Lodge with many of their close friends.
Having been blessed in sharing Lorraine's life was her husband of fifty-nine years, Wendy, four children, 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren: Jim and Cathie Aberle and children, Laura (James) Rogers, Missy (Cas) Schneller, Natalie (Michael) Tognetti and Edie (Adam) Gerk; Chuck and Sue Hohenthaner and children, Sarah (Andy) Engstrom, Bryan and Erin (Tanner) Schuldt; Jerry Aberle and children, Chad and Lindsey; Mike and Christy Aberle and children, Emily and Molly.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Rose Manning, her husband Wendy, brothers Bob and Richard, a sister Lenore, and granddaughter Molly.
A celebration of life will be held later this summer.
