Loren Carold Hindbjorgen, born in Hendricks, MN on October 14, 1938, was the third of five sons born to Ida and Bennie Hindbjorgen. He grew up on a farm near Hendricks and went to a one-room country schoolhouse before attending grades 8-12 in Hendricks. In high school, Loren played football, softball, and ran track, and graduated in 1956. He married his high school sweetheart, Arlene Dorn, on November 10, 1957. After working in Sioux Falls, SD, he attended South Dakota State University (SDSU) and graduated in 1962 with a degree in AG Economics.

After graduation, Loren held many federal government positions working for the Federal Bureau of Reclamation and/or the Corp of Engineering. His first position was in Bismarck, ND. Shortly after, the family moved to St Paul, MN. Loren then relocated to Huron, SD where his family lived for 17 years.

Along the way, they had three children, one in MN, one in ND, and one in SD. So… they decided to stop moving and stay in SD. After transferring to Pierre, SD, his family relocated to Spearfish, SD where he lived until his passing. Loren retired from the Bureau of Reclamation at age 55 and started lawn care and windshield repair businesses.

Loren was a faithful member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. He taught Sunday school, organized a weekly men's Bible study group, and volunteered for the Good Shepherd Clinic. He was a member of the local Optimist club and enjoyed golfing and playing cards. A big Minnesota Vikings and Twins fan, he attended as many games as possible. Mostly, he loved sharing stories, telling jokes, and spending time with family. Loren was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He generously gave to anyone in need.

Loren passed away on May 2, 2024, at the age of 85. He is survived by his wife Arlene of Spearfish, SD; daughter Dawn Swanson and granddaughter Hannah Swanson (Scottsdale, AZ) grandson Matt Swanson (a Marine stationed in Japan); son Kyle Hindbjorgen, wife Mary Beth and step-granddaughter, Alyssa, husband Josh and great-grandson Leo Lenz (Chandler, AZ); daughter Jill and husband Chad Klock, grandsons Cruise and Chase and granddaughter Tatum Klock (Phoenix, AZ).

He was preceded in death by his parents Bennie and Ida Hindbjorgen (Hendricks, MN); brother Darwin and wife Audrey (Hendricks, MN); brother Roger (Sioux Falls, SD); brother Obed (Sioux Falls, SD); and brother Paul (Hendricks, MN).

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Spearfish, SD, with Pastor Stephan Sandness officiating.
