Loren Joe Eichler, 62, of Newell passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Monument Health in Spearfish SD.

Loren was born on December 1, 1961, in Belle Fourche, SD to Ray and Janet Eichler. Loren spent his childhood and teen years in Newell and was very proud to be a Newell Irrigator. He was a 1980 graduate of Newell High School and attended Black Hills State in Spearfish, SD.

Loren loved spending time in his sanctuary garden and spent this past summer planting another garden with a large variety of wildflowers. If you stopped by you for sure get a full tour and walk through his sanctuary. If you were really lucky you would get a tour of the "tin sheds" where he was just the "caretaker."

In November 1988, Loren married Rebecca Butler in Eagle Butte, SD. Although divorced they remained good friends and continued to celebrate family holidays with the boys and their families. Anything for the boys and the grandkids. Their friendship really showed when Loren was diagnosed with cancer as Rebecca was there for every appointment, chemo treatment, and radiation treatment. Loren loved his boys and their families to the end.

Loren is survived by two sons, Alex (Jacqueline) Eichler, Spearfish, SD and Guenther (Morgan) Eichler Rapid City, SD; six grandchildren Kasey Stricherz and Lorelai Eichler, Spearfish, SD, Elliott, Audrey, and Willem Eichler Rapid City SD and Marley Stevens Rapid City, SD; dear friend Rebecca Eichler, Rapid City, SD; mother Janet Eichler Rapid City, SD; sisters Kris (Randy) Vetch, Rapid City, SD, Beth Eichler Sioux Falls, SD and Becky (Daryl) Shryock Edmond, OK; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Eichler and sister, Connie Beranek.

A private family celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
