Obituary

Lois Hope Fenner, 94 of Spearfish died Friday, May 9, 2008 at the Dorsett Regional Senior Care in Spearfish.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Spearfish with Pastor Kent Stillson officiating, Burial will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Spearfish. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church.
A memorial has been established to Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Spearfish.
Lois was born January 27, 1914 to Henry and Clara (Vane) Anderson in Clarkfield, Minnesota. She moved with her family to eastern South Dakota, living in Roslyn, Rosholt, New Effington and later settling in Veblen. Lois graduated from Veblen High School in 1932. She then attended Northern in Aberdeen for one year and taught in rural schools in Marshall and Grant counties. Lois married Earl E. Fenner of Summit, SD, on August 13, 1939, on her parent's farm. The couple made their home in Summit. While in Summit she was active in the Lutheran Church organizations, served on the Board of Education, Reorganization Board, and the Roberts County Board of the Society for Crippled Children and Adults. Lois attended General Beadle State College in Madison, SD from 1963 to 1964 where she received a two year elementary teaching certificate. Lois then taught in Summit and Java, SD. She furthered her education at Black Hills State College, graduating in 1968 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. She then taught in Mobridge, SD until her retirement. While in school Lois was an Honor Student in high school and made the Dean's list in college. She joined the Honorary Societies of Kappa Delta Pi and Delta Kappa Gamma. Lois received a life membership pin for working in the Women's Missionary Federation of the Lutheran Church. The couple moved to Spearfish in 1984.
Survivors include her daughter, Karen (Doug) Dittus of Plain City, Ohio and two grandsons; Jason (Amy) Dittus of Whitehouse, OH and Dr. Jeremy Dittus of Broomfield, CO; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew Landon and Meghan Lynne Dittus.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Clara Mae Hillison; brother in infancy, James Peter Anderson; and grandson, Lee Dittus.
