Lois Marie Blosmo, 90, Spearfish, SD passed away peacefully at Rapid City Regional Hospital on June 19, 2017, with her family at her side.
Lois was born on June 18,1927, in a cook shack near Thunderhawk, SD to Melvin and Laura Knutson. She was raised on a farm north of Lemmon, SD. Lois graduated from Lemmon High School on 1941 and from State Teacher's College in Dickinson, ND in 1945. Lois taught in a country school for two years that was located close to the family farm.
Lois married Mearl E. Blosmo on February 16, 1946. They raised three children, John, Connie, and Candace on the family homestead ranch and in Rapid City, SD. Lois and Mearl also lived in Spearfish, SD for many years. They were a loving team for 67 years.
Lois juggled jobs, school, family, church, Moose Lodge and VFW Post 8487 Auxiliary activities. She was always proud of her education. She graduated from Black Hills State College with a 2 year degree in 1943 and a Bachelors of Science in Education in 1945. Lois worked as a librarian in Rapid Valley School for 12 years and as a librarian in the cataloging department for 21 years at Black Hills State College. Family, friends and living in her own home made her the happiest.
Lois is survived by her son, John (LorRaine), daughters, Connie (Johnny) Niehaus and Candace Stromer, 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mearl; parents, Melvin and Laura Knutson; brother, Dean (Beverly) Knutson; sister, Arlene (Lavern) Banning; parents-in-law John, Annetta and Florence; brother-in-law, Ted (Harriet); two sisters-in-law, Rilla (Harrison) Miles and Ruby (Don) Ham; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 AM, on Friday, June 23, 2017 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Spearfish. Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Our Saviors Lutheran Church and the Spearfish VFW Auxiliary.
