Lillian Wilma Rich of Spearfish, SD, and former long time resident of Deadwood, SD, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 6, 2009 at Lead Deadwood Regional Hospital after a short illness. She was living at Burr's Tender Care Assisted Living.
Lillian was born on April 7, 1912 in Scranton, ND, to William and Caroline (Durrhammer) Hammer. She attended a consolidated school near Scranton. On November 26, 1932, Lillian married Peter Rich in Deadwood at the Saint Ambrose Catholic Church rectory. They made their home in Deadwood for many years. Lillian worked as a bookkeeper for the Singer Sewing Machine Company, JC Pennys, and Schwarzwalds. In 1960 she opened the Fabric Fair Shop in Deadwood and operated it until 1972 when she retired. She was also a Beta Sigma Phi Sorority longtime member and past president.
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband Peter in 1992 and eight brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Michael) Larson of Deadwood, two grandsons, Mark (Julie) Larson and Daniel (Belinda) Larson all of Spearfish, five great grandchildren; Savannah (Lance) Horst of Deadwood, Amber Larson of Spearfish, Rebekah Larson of Dickinson University, ND, Luke Larson of Spearfish, and Hannah Larson of Spearfish, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lillian was a wonderful, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be greatly missed. 'Til we meet again, mom.
Visitation will be from 3:00pm until 6:00pm on Sunday, August 9, 2009 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00am on Monday, August 10, 2009 at Saint Ambrose Catholic Church in Deadwood, with Father Kerry Prendiville as Celebrant, burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery near Deadwood.
Memorials may be given to Saint Ambrose Catholic Church in Deadwood.
