Levi B. Metzger, 77, of Lead, SD went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at his home after a five and a half year battle with cancer.
Levi was born March 11, 1938 to Christ and Elizabeth (Scheck) Metzger at Glen Ullin, ND. He was raised on the family farm in the Glen Ullin area, where he attended school. In 1961, he moved to Lead and went to work as a miner at Homestake Gold Mine, retiring in 1993 after 31 years of mining. Levi married Diana Atanasu on December 23, 1993 in Lead. Levi enjoyed fishing and especially loved helping others as a jack of all trades. No project was ever too much, he never gave up.
Visitation for Levi will be 6-8 PM, on Friday, July 24 at the Lead-Deadwood Memorial Chapel in Lead. Funeral Services will be at 10 AM, Saturday, July 25 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lead. Interment will follow at Mountain Lawn Cemetery near Lead.
Survivors include his wife, Diana of Lead; his children, Jeffery Metzger of Rapid City, Sharon (Norm) Mason of Lead, Barbara (Doyle) Shaff of Brandon, SD, Audrey (Alex) Aguilar of Denver, CO and Dale (Jamee) Metzger of Sequim, WA; step-sons, Edward (Cathy) Manderfeld of Lead, Ronald Manderfeld, of Roundup, MT, Michael Manderfeld of Warren, PA; brothers, Raymond Metzger of Lead and Gary Metzger of Pierre; sisters, Bernice Kinnischtzke of Glen Ullin, ND, Florence Zimmerman of Bismarck, ND and Helen Sailer of Bismarck, ND; 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
