Obituary

Leslie Homer Fullerton, age 80, died October 26, 2020, at Sundance Assisted Care, in Sundance, Wyoming.

Les was born to Homer and Lucille Watt Fullerton, April 20, 1940 in Newcastle, Wyoming.  He was the oldest of five children born to Lucille and Homer.  He spent his early years living on ranches in Weston County, before moving to Osage.  When Les was eleven years old, his father died in a truck accident.  Lucille moved her young family to Upton, into a new home on 6 th street, made possible through the love and generosity of her parents, brothers and sisters.

During his high school years, Les spent summers working on the Les Watt and Ernest Thompson ranches. After graduating from Upton High School, Les worked for Materi Exploration. In 1963 he was drafted into the United States Army, where he spent 2 years, and upon discharge returned to Upton and Materi Exploration.  A few years later Les moved to Sundance, working for Tri-County Electric (Powder River Energy) until retirement.

Les loved cars.  After retirement, he spent countless hours building and restoring antique cars with cherished friends.  He loved helping and participating in the Rose Classic Show & Shine car show.  Arrowhead hunting was also a favorite past time.  Les was an avid reader of many subjects.  He could read a 400-page book in a single day, and compiled a list of nearly 130 authors, and he claimed to have read everything each had ever published.

Les tried his hardest to maintain his reputation as grumpy curmudgeon, but everyone knew him as a soft-hearted, generous uncle, friend, brother, and son.  Les was a kind man, generous to a fault with everyone.  He was especially devoted to his mother, visiting Lucille most Sundays, rain or shine, for decades.  Lucille made him a big Sunday meal, which included her fresh baked, homemade bread.  During the last couple years of Lucille's life, Les took over Sunday cooking under his mother's guidance, and even learned to mix and knead the dough for her homemade bread.  He did her grocery shopping, projects around the house, and was determined to keep her living comfortably and safely in her home, until Lucille made the decision to live the last few months of her life with loved ones in Sundance and Idaho Falls.

Les was preceded in death by his father Homer Fullerton, mother Lucille Fullerton Darlington, sister Alice Fornstrom, stepfather Russell (Sandy) Darlington, grandnephews Jeremiah Jundt and Derek Hunt, and grandniece LaTisha Peplow Houston. He is survived by sisters Carol Petersen, Sundance; Wanda Donges, Sheridan; and Elenore (Ron) Hampton, Idaho Falls; brother Allen (Toddi) Darlington, Wind River Canyon; brother-in-law Leonard Fornstrom, Pine Bluffs; 11 nieces and nephews, 27 grand nephews and nieces, and 4 great-grand nephews and nieces.

Arrangements for a celebration of Leslie's life have yet to be determined, but will take place in the Upton City Park, in late spring or summer, when friends and family can gather safely.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Crook County Public Library or the Sundance Senior Center.
