LeRoy Butts, 76, Sundance, WY, passed away with his family by his side at Crook County Memorial Hospital on June 25, 2013.

He was born on February 7, 1937, to Ross and Clara (Miller) Butts in Belle Fourche, SD. He attended rural schools in Crook County and at an early age, he started working for wages, as a ranch hand and for a dude ranch. Later he was employed by Robert's Construction Co. in Sundance. He joined the US Army on February 8, 1956 and was stationed in Ulm, Germany. He was Honorably Discharged on December 12, 1957 due to his father's ill health. He then continued working for Robert's Construction Co.

On October 26, 1963, LeRoy married Lila Vines and they took over the family ranch, where he resided until his death.

LeRoy enjoyed fishing, hunting, rodeoing, wood carving and reading about American history. He was a craftsman of western decor for the ranch and family members.

In his younger years, he played a harmonica and a guitar; he sometimes played for dances at the Old Legion Hall in Sundance. Country music was his favorite and he liked to dance, he especially liked to waltz.
He loved the ranch way of life, the animals, listening to the rain fall and being outdoors.
Family was very important to him. He was especially proud of his three sons and their families.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Lila; son, Jim (Angela), Kayla and Kory; son, Les (Cassie), Davis and Dawson; son, Wes (Denene Humphries), Katie, Andrea and Rowdy; and five nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Myrna Mae Bartlett Colvin and brother-in-law, Loran Bartlett.
