Obituary

Leonard Matthew Weber, 87, of Spearfish, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at the Belle Fourche Healthcare Center.

Len was born to Joseph & Josephine (Wermers) Weber on June 15, 1926 in Dimock SD. He attended and received his diploma of completion from SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Elementary School. Leonard then helped with the many chores on the family farm. He was drafted into World War II on March 8, 1945. His tour of duty in the Army ended December 16, 1946. Leonard was a Medical Technician 5, stationed in the Pacific. He received the Presidential Unit Medal, Asiatic Service Medal, Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan). Upon returning, Leonard worked on building a life and farm for his future.

Leonard married Delores "Lori" Susan Roth on January 11, 1949. Len and Lori resided on their farm in Dimock, SD with their six children, until Leonard's health pushed them to leave the farm behind and relocate to Spearfish around October 1962, where they later had their seventh child.

Leonard worked as a foreman for 23 1/2 years at Wheeler Post and Pole in Whitewood, SD until his retirement in1990. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus and also an active member of the VFW Post 5860, holding the position of Commander from 1971-1972. Leonard loved hunting and fishing with his sons and after retirement spent many a day in his woodshop making crafts for everyone. He adored and loved to spend time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his six children; Mary Jane (James) Schuchardt, Spearfish, Joyce (Kurt) Hall, Spearfish, Carol (Brian) Policky, Richland Hills TX, Doris (Thomas) Deis, Spearfish, Terri (Marvin) Ward, Spearfish, Mark (Terri)Weber, Spearfish; nine grandchildren, Jessica (Jake) Bush, Derek Deis, Katie (Kent) Buhr, Heather (Cole) Hord, Bethany (Jerrold) Hansen, Cindy Weber, Kortny (Abby) Hall, Kyle (Leslie) Hall and Kari Ann Ward; two great-grandchildren, Emerson Hall and Eleanor Buhr; three brothers, Virgil Weber Spearfish, Jerome Weber, Mitchell SD, Bill Weber, Merino, CO; four sisters, Sally Pollreisz, Ethan SD, Helen Pollreisz, Ethan SD, Rita Mutziger, Mitchell SD, Marlis Miiller, Mitchell SD; and good friend, Katie Wieser of Spearfish.

He was preceded in death by his wife Delores, his parents, son, Daniel, grandson, Eric Weber, sisters, Lucille Muth and Stella Puetz and brother, Alvin Weber.

Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. on Monday, January, 20, 2014 at the Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish, Vigil service will follow at 7:00 P.M. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Tyler Dennis as Celebrant. Burial with military honors, by the Spearfish Honor Guard, will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Crematory Service of Spearfish.
