Obituary

Leo William McGuigan, 92, of Spearfish, died Tuesday March 5, 2013.

Leo was born on the McGuigan farm near Spearfish, SD on May 1,1920 to Charles and Mamie (Kerwin) McGuigan. Leo spent his entire 92 years on the "home" place. He attended Spearfish Schools, graduating from high school in 1938.

On October 21, 1946 he married the love of his life, Regina Lauer, at St. Agatha's Catholic Church in Howard, SD. They raised their family on McGuigan Dairy.

He was a lifetime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Spearfish. He was a 4th Degree Knight and Grand Knight of the Knight's of Columbus. He served on the Board of Directors of Black Hills Milk Producers and Patron's Oil Company.

In his "retirement" years, Leo and Regina traveled extensively, stopping in all 50 states and several foreign countries. He was never happier than when he was driving a tractor or swathing hay, which he continued to do through 2012. He thoroughly enjoyed his Tuesday morning ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out) friends. He was honored to be included in the Elder Wisdom program at East Elementary in 2009. He delivered Meals on Wheels and made sure the elderly and disabled had a ride to church.

Grateful for having shared his life are his children; Patty Moe, St. Onge, SD, Donna (Bob) Lantgen, Watertown, SD, Mike (Mary) McGuigan, Spearfish, LeAnn (Lloyd) Vette, Spearfish, Tamara (Corin) Dennison of Minneapolis, MN; his grandchildren; Chad and Kelly Moe, Robin Moe Brown, Krysti, Aaron, Scott Lantgen, Curtis McGuigan, Heather McGuigan Koerner, Brianne Vette Edwards, Tori Vette, Randi Vette, Cleo and Leander Dennison; 15 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Alice Tetrault and Rose Emma Tetrault of St. Onge. He was preceded in death by his wife Regina in 2001, his daughter Marilyn, his son-in-law Terry Moe, and great-grandson Lachlan Edwards and three brothers Charles, Raymond and Thomas.
