Obituary

Leeyn D. Strickland, 49 of Whitewood, SD passed away on September 12, 2018.

Leeyn was born on February 25, 1969 in Deadwood, SD and grew up in Lead, SD, which is where he received his education. During his teenage years he met the love of his life Sarina, the person who he chose to stay with for the rest of his life. The teenage sweethearts wed on July 27, 1996 in Deadwood City Park and have been together for 30 beautiful years. With this union, two loving children were born: Raina and Shane.
In 1995 they moved to Idaho and lived there for three years before they traveled back to South Dakota where they found their forever hometown in Whitewood.
Leeyn worked several different jobs in his life ranging from plumbing, laying fiber optics, construction, and rock crushing. He finally found his calling in the oil fields, which allowed him to experience many different states such as ND, CO, WY, and NM. He wore many different hard hats in the oilfields. He started at the bottom and worked his way through the top. Meanwhile gaining the respect from his oil field brothers. With this career he gained multiple licenses and endorsements. Some of his most accomplished achievements were; class A CDL with Tanker, Hazmat, double trailer endorsements, and his Heavy Equipment Operator License, plus so much more.
Family was the most important part of Leeyn's life. Any chance there was to spent time with family was a cherished time. Holidays and family get togethers were his favorite times. In his eyes the term family expanded into his work life, because of the many amazing people who he was blessed to be with daily. A day never went by where he didn't communicate with his loved ones.
Leeyn touched many lives and was greatly beloved by all that ever had the opportunity to meet him; making lifelong friends wherever he went. Leeyn was always willing to offer a helping hand, near or far.
He had the ability to lift anyone's spirits with his contagious smile. His positive attitude led to his, offhanded comments, quips, and quite often humorous jokes. The results to be expected were several smiles, and gut-wrenching laughter.
If you ever met Leeyn you would know his love for football, and you also know his favorite team, Denver Bronco. In his home you would find Broncos memorabilia everywhere. When the game was on talking to him wasn't an option unless it was about football. Leeyn was the ultimate Broncos fan. Besides football, he like to fish, have picnics, tinker in his garage, playing poker, working on his truck, and adding new and better toys to his arsenal.
Leeyn had an impact on each and every one of us. Some of the memories that we have with him will never be replicated. Leeyn wasn't perfect, but he stride to be the best husband, father, son, brother, cousin, uncle and friend that he could possibly be. May we each cherish the memories we had with him.
