Obituary

Lawrence "Pat" Patterson, 85, passed away at his home on Saturday, July 19, 2008 in Spearfish, SD.

Funeral services will be at 10:00AM on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at the Congregational Church in Buffalo, SD, with Pastor Jean Helmer officiating. Burial will follow at the Buffalo Cemetery with Masonic Graveside Rites provided by the Cedar Branch Lodge #179.

A memorial has been established to the Buffalo Cemetery.

Pat was born on a ranch south of Buffalo on June 12, 1923 to W. Lawrence Patterson and Dorothy Buethe Patterson. He attended country school. Pat had to stay out of school between his 8th and 9th grade and between his 9th and 10th grade years to earn enough money to put himself through high school. He graduated from Buffalo High School in 1943.

He married the "love of his life," Donna Marie Penn on May 23, 1948. To this union, 3 children were born. Terryl ( Terry) Matson, Spearfish, Mike (Susan) Patterson, Harding, SD, and Geri (Stan) Lindholm, Grand Junction, CO.

Pat and Donna lived and worked on various Harding County ranches until the fall of 1967. They then moved to Buffalo where he worked for the Harding County Highway Department for 15 years, the last 3 years as Highway Superintendent. In 2001, they moved to Spearfish where they enjoyed retirement.

Pat enjoyed bowling, watching football and helping George Coyle with his cows. His favorite hobby was gardening and giving what he grew away. Pat also joined Cedar Branch Lodge #179 in Buffalo and was a member for 54 years.

His greatest joy was his wife, Donna, of 60 years. He felt so blessed to have lived long enough to be able to celebrate their 60th Anniversary. The Celebration and his special surprise of a 60 year ring to Donna, was the highlight of his last year.

Also grateful for having shared his life are his 8 grandchildren; Terra (John) Shaffner, Terree (Alan) Matson-McCoy, Matt (Wendy) Lindholm, Stanna Lindholm (deceased), Adam (Alyssa) Lindholm, Audra, Tyler, and Allison Patterson, and 7 great-grandchildren; Kelyn, Karlee, Saidee, Sidnee, Silvee, Coy and Daxon. He is also survived by his brothers Earl, Clarence and Dick, and a sister Darlene Ginsbach.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, 1 sister and granddaughter Stanna.
