Larry Wilbert Knapp, 56, of Belle Fourche SD, passed away on the evening of Sunday, February 14, due to diabetic complications.
Larry was born on June 8, 1959, in Belle Fourche, SD to Jerry and Marilyn (Long) Knapp. He grew up in Camp Crook, SD until he was in 6th grade, when they moved to Hulett, WY, where Larry completed high school.
Larry married his high school sweetheart, and love of his life, Jolleen Ostby Knapp on July 14, 1978. They shared 37 years of happiness raising their three children, Craig, Tallia and Bryce, and eventually their five grandchildren, Colton Brice, Clay Edwards, Kora Dylan, Rhyan Jaymes, and Charley Grace.
Larry was born with sap in his veins. The majority of his life was spent logging. In 1978, Larry, his brothers and dad started a logging business called "Triple K Logging." In the late 1980's, Larry started his own company called "CTB Logging" in Hulett, WY, naming it after his children, Craig, Tallia and Bryce. After shutting the logging business down in 2003, Larry and Jolleen moved to Firestone, CO where he enjoyed worked for Hogan Action Dirt Services. If Larry wasn't going to be logging, he needed to work on heavy machinery to get that diesel and oil smell that made him feel like he was in the woods.
Larry had a zest for life, a smile and kind word, or an ornery remark for his friends and family. He was always laughing and telling stories. He loved spending time with his family. When his kids were young, he spent most of his time teaching them everything about sports, boating, snowmobiling and logging. Larry enjoyed playing cards, watching football and was so happy to see his favorite quarterback, Peyton Manning, win the Super Bowl with his Denver Broncos this year. He had a love/hate relationship with the game of golf and played as often as he could. Larry always reminisced about the "best days" being spent coaching the Hulett Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball Teams and spending every summer weekend at the lake with his wife and kids. Those were some of the happiest days of his life. More recently, Larry was busy teaching his grandkids the importance of the Denver Broncos, the TV show "Gunsmoke" and wit and humor, which all of the grandkids inherited from their "Papa Larry."
Larry is survived by his wife, Jolleen Knapp of Belle Fourche, SD; children, Craig (Tara) Knapp of Belle Fourche, SD, Tallia Knapp of Greeley, COand Bryce (Amanda) Knapp of Pueblo, CO; his grandchildren, Colton, Clay, Kora, Rhyan and Charley; mother and father, Jerry and Marilyn Knapp of Hulett, WY; two brothers, Jerry (Wendy) Knapp of Belle Fourche, SD and Kent (Jeanine) Knapp of Hulett, WY; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Larry is preceded in death by a baby sister, Sherry Rae Knapp; maternal grandparents, Wilbert and Marion Long; paternal grandparents, Bill and Marie Knapp; and mother-in-law, Arvilla Ostby.
Memorial services will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 22, 2016 at the Greater Hulett Community Center. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Chutes for Charity and Ride a Horse, Feed a Cowboy.
