Knollie Sell, 80, from Deadwood, South Dakota passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at the Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Knollie was born in Ucolo, Colorado on August 17, 1940, to Frank and Ruth (Hill) Sell. He grew up in Colorado and graduated high school in Nucla, Colorado. He served in the Navy, earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from University of New Mexico and worked for Homestake Mining Company in New Mexico, California, and South Dakota for over 35 years. He shared 58 years in marriage with his wife Jacqueline G. (Johnson) Sell and has seven living children, nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Knollie enjoyed spending time with family and friends, learning, problem solving and creating, and a good game of golf. He was known to help anyone in need and took many nieces and nephews under his wing through rough patches and joys. He coached many youth sports teams and was a mentor to all—family, friends and colleagues. He was innovative in woodworking, consulting, and tinkering and an avid reader.
Knollie is survived by his wife Jacqueline (Johnson) Sell of Deadwood South Dakota, son John (Traci) Sell of Santa Rosa, California, daughter Geralyn Seng (Ray) of Eighty Four, Pennsylvania, daughter Jacque Sell of Deadwood, South Dakota, daughter Susanna Pennes (Eric) of Santa Rosa California, son Tom (Danielle) of El Dorado Hills, California, daughter Merlyn Sell of Rapid City, South Dakota, daughter Lori Wolf of Sacramento, California, nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, his brother Rod Sell of Nucla, Colorado, sister Velma (Sell) Aerts (Robert Sr.) of San Antonio, New Mexico and sister Teresa (Sell) Vigil (Clarence) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, sisters-in law Mary Ellen Orr (Glen) of San Antonio, Texas, Kathleen Stambaugh (Bill) of Sheridan, Wyoming and Marline Casey of Albuquerque, New Mexico and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five unborn children, his parents Frank and Ruth (Hill) Sell, sister Wilma Sell, brother Thomas Sell, sister Francis (Sell) Lackey and parents-in-law, Jack and Merlyn (Manhart) Johnson and beloved friend, Lec Casey.
Private family funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Deadwood, South Dakota with Father Leo Hausmann officiating. Graveside service will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Lead, South Dakota, guests are invited, masks and social distancing are required.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Northern California Multiple Sclerosis Society or the COPD Foundation in honor of Knollie Sell are requested.
