Kermit E. Edwards, 87, of Spearfish, SD, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 25, 2011 after a long illness.
He was born October 15, 1923, to Pierre and Grace Edwards, in Alzada, MT. His family moved to the Black Hills of SD in 1929.
Kermit was married on November 9, 1947 to Mary A. Rummans, in Spearfish. They were married for 50 years. Family was always the center of his world and the house was often filled with children and grandchildren, especially during holidays. These times always brought a smile to his face.
Kermit served as an M.P. in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for the Homestake Mining Company timber department as a logger for 30 years. After his retirement, he continued to work cutting and delivering firewood and pitch posts, and the occasional logging contract. Kermit was always most at home among the trees whether working or hunting or fishing.
He was a dedicated member of the Loyal Order of the Moose; he was instrumental in the establishment of the Moose Lodge 859 in Belle Fourche, SD where he served as its first governor. He earned an Honorary Diploma from Mooseheart in 1980, and the Pilgrim Degree of Merit in 1982.
He is survived by his three sons, Jack Robinson, Bill Robinson and his wife Pat, and Phil Edwards and his wife, Cindy, all of Spearfish; one daughter, LaVerne DeLand and her husband, Dennis, of Fulton, NY; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his brothers Kenneth and Merris, and a grandson, Billy Joe Robinson.
Visitation will be Wednesday September, 28th from 4 -7 pm at the Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish.
Services will be held at The United Methodist Church in Spearfish, SD September 29th at 11:00 am.
