Kenneth Lucas Weiss died Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at his home in Lead.
Kenny was born on January 21, 1945 in Mandan, North Dakota to Fred and Leocadia (Hoffman) Weiss. Kenny grew up on a farm by Center, North Dakota, where he graduated from high school in 1963. He joined the Army in 1965, serving his country in the Vietnam War. While in the army Kenny earned a Sharpshooter badge, Good Conduct Medal and a Bronze Star. Kenny married Carol Zahn on March 11, 1967 and they raised three children together. Kenny worked as a Power Plant Operator for 30 plus years starting at the plant in Center, North Dakota. He later took a job at the Coyote Station south of Beulah where he retired as the shift supervisor of the control room.
Kenny enjoyed hunting of all kinds, fishing, camping, sightseeing, family vacations, playing cards, and dice games. He particularly enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and later in life spending time with his grandchildren. All of his favorite past times were spent socializing with family, friends, and complete strangers. Kenny was known to be able to strike up a conversation anytime, any place. All his joys and past times were spent with his wife always by his side.
After his retirement Kenny and Carol moved to the Black Hills of South Dakota, where they built a home in Lead. Together they have spent the past 9 years enjoying their retirement there. Kenny often commented about how much he appreciated living in this area and the circle of good friends they have established.
Kenny is survived by his wife, Carol; his son, Brian (Theresa) Weiss; his daughter, Rhonda Weiss; five grandchildren, Jeffery, Courtney,Collin, Rhett, and Evan; a brother, Thomas (Doris) Weiss; two sisters, Kathleen (Marty) Gullickson and Carol Weiss; three brother-in-laws, Dale (Lois) Zahn, Glenn (Julie) Zahn, Delvin (Cindy) Zahn; a sister-in-law, Shirley (Steve) Zahn and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by a son Bradley Weiss; his parents Fred and Leocadia Weiss; a brother Daniel Weiss; and his father and mother-in-law Walter and Dorothy Zahn.
Memorial Mass will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at St Patrick Catholic Church in Lead.
