Kenneth Oban, 81, of Spearfish, SD passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at Spearfish Regional Hospital.
Visitation will be from 2-7 P.M., Monday, December 21, 2009 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Spearfish with the Father Tim Hoag, officiating. Burial will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Kenneth was born November 17, 1928 in Loyalton, SD to Chester and Janette (Murray) Oban. He lived and attended school in Loyalton and Ipswich, SD where he graduated from high school. He married Geraldine Fenger in Ipswich on May 8, 1950. From this union full of love and friendship four children were born. The couple traveled with Johnson Brothers Construction Crew for over 25 years, for whom Kenneth was employed and Geraldine was the crew cook at times. The couple also lived in Wright, WY for 10 years while Kenneth was employed by Antelope Coal Mine. In 1994, they retired and returned to their home in Spearfish, SD.
Kenneth enjoyed landscaping around the house and keeping "Chester" his best friend entertained. He enjoyed his son, Randy returning home and spending the last 5 years together. He also enjoyed each day spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Kenneth is survived by two children, Randy Oban of Spearfish and Sherri (Mick)Baker of Belle Fourche, SD, one brother, Harold Oban of Chicago, IL, nine grandchildren; Melissa (Tony) Pressler, Oroville, WA, Jessica (Nathon) Gibson, Douglas, WY, Nikolas (Jen) Oban, Jacksonville, NC, Zakarry Oban, Michael Oban, Annie Oban, of Douglas, Keela Severson, Kimball, SD, Branden (Nicky) Carpenter, St. Onge, SD, Dusten Carpenter of Belle Fouche, SD; seven great-grandchildren; Dylan and Chance Pressler, Anthony and Caddein Gibson, Shelby and Heidi Severson and Summer Carpenter.
Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents, wife Geraldine in 2004, two sons, Robert in 2009 and Gary in infancy and sister, Arlene Lewis.
A memorial has been established to benefit Hospice of the Northern Hills.
