Kenneth James Coffield, 83 of Spearfish, SD died Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the Belle Fourche Healthcare Center.

Kenneth was born October 17,1933 to Edgar and Doris Coffield in Hettinger, ND. At age five they moved from Reva, SD to Hill City, SD where he attended school until he graduated in 1953. He worked for Homestake Mine for 8 months before being drafted into the army. After four years of service, he returned to Hill City where he worked with his dad in Reva, SD farming in the summer months. In the winter, he drilled water wells with his brother-in-law Gene Hamm. In 1964, he married Kitty O'Dell. He returned to Homestake Mine in 1978, until he retired in 1999. He also retired from the National Guard after 21 years of service.

He is survived by his sister, Mildred Hamm, of Hill City, SD; his five children, Jack Coffield, of Spearfish, SD, John (Judy) Coffield, of Belle Fourche, SD, Sue (Tom) Trancynger, of Gillette, WY, Sherry (Ken) Leaver, of Whitewood, SD, Kasey (Kristine) Coffield, of Spearfish, SD; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Royce Coffield.

Inurnment with full Military Honors will be 1:30pm, on Friday, June 2, 2017, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD. There will be a gathering of family and friends on June 4th from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the VFW in Spearfish, SD.
