Kenneth Alger ,78, of Lead, SD passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at the Ft. Meade VA Hospital in Sturgis, SD.
Cremains burial will be Friday, April 13th at 1:00 p. m. in the Black Hills National Cemetery at Sturgis with military honors.
Kenneth Walter Alger was born October 25, 1933 in Lead to Walter and Lila (Putnman) Alger.
He attended school in Lead and graduated from Lead High School in 1951. He was inducted into the Army in September, 1953 and discharged in August, 1956. While in the Army he served in Japan. He returned to Lead and began work at the Homestake Mine. He retired from Homestake in 1992. He enjoyed photography and was an avid marksman. He was a member of the Lead Rod & Gun Club.
He is survived by two nephews, Stephen Hedlund of Gillette, WY and Jeffrey Hedlund of Oakes, ND; a niece Becky Hedlund of Brookings, SD; and a brother-in-law Gary Hedlund of Huron, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Lila Mae Hedlund in September, 2000.
