Kelly D. Thomsen , age 70; lifelong resident of Lead, who passed away peacefully, on Friday, March 20th, 2026, at the Hospice House in Rapid City.

He was born on January 13, 1956, at Deadwood Hospital. Kelly graduated in 1974 from Lead High School. He always loved music, even played in the H.S. Pep Band, he played the trumpet. Kelly also loved nascar, camping, hunting, archery, bike riding, hiking, skiing, and definitely outdoor activities. He loved his family, friends, and most of all his pets. Best doggy dad ever.

He went to Phoenix, AZ for a couple of years of college, he pursued architectural drawing before ultimately deciding to come home. He then applied and worked at Homestake Gold Mine for 22 years. Until the mine closed. Kelly was a 3rd generation miner. After the closure of the mine, Kelly applied for the Lead-Deadwood School District and worked another 22 years before retiring. He really enjoyed being in the Lead-Deadwood area, always with a smile on his face.

Kelly and Connie were married on September 23, 2000, and were happily married for 25 years. In 2012, Kelly was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and gave a great “13 year” battle. Connie showed her undying support and love throughout the great battle.

He is survived by his wife, Connie Thomsen, his daughter, LaToya of Sturgis, SD; son, Jonathon of Copper Coves, TX; eight grandchildren, three of his sisters, Deb Williams of Spearfish, SD, Marla (Dana) Sieveke of North Platte, Nebraska, Lori Allen of Lead, SD. Numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.

Kelly is preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, and his son, Jason Thomsen and one grandson, Colton.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Mountain Lawn Cemetery. Officiated by Reverend Morgan Hendershott.
