Karen K. Isaak, 61 of Central City, SD died Friday, April 20, 2018 at Hospice House in Rapid City, SD.
Karen was born on August 30, 1956 in Deadwood, South Dakota, to Richard and Patricia (Seck) Sass. She married Jim R. Mattson in June 1980, and also took on the joy of motherhood by becoming a stepmother to Kesha. Jim and Karen were also blessed with a daughter of their own, Whitney. In November 2005, Karen married John M. Isaak and added the joy of another step-daughter, Kelsey.
A lifelong resident of Lead-Deadwood and jack of all trades, Karen held many titles throughout her short life, from babysitter, to bookkeeper, to miner. Most importantly, she was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, wife and friend. She was known to be passionate for many things- bowling, gardening, camping, fishing, traveling, cooking and celebrating the holidays, just to name a few.
Karen is survived by her husband, John, Central City, SD; daughters, Kesha (Greg) Nelson, Deadwood, SD, Whitney Mattson, Denver, CO, Kelsey Isaak, Sturgis, SD; two brothers, Dick (Marilyn) Sass, Kennewick, WA, Larry Sass, Phoenix, AZ; two sisters, Patti Loken, Roseville, MN, Sherry (Rick) Charter, Lead, SD, seven nieces and nephews; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Patricia Sass, brother-in-law, Mark Isaak, and three great-grandsons.
A celebration of Karen's life will be held from 1:00pm-5:00pm, Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at the V.F.W. Club in Deadwood.
