IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Judy
Brun
December 23, 1949 – January 20, 2026
Before sunrise on January 20, 2026 the soul of Judy Kay Brun found peace and returned to her creator. Judy Brun of Spearfish, SD passed in her home with her husband and son at her side. Judy Kay Brun was born on December 23, 1949, in Marshfield, Wisconsin, to Willard and Ferneda Specht. During her childhood, she formed a lifelong bond with the “obnoxious” boy next door, Bill. Growing up side by side, their friendship blossomed into love, and Judy and Bill were married on December 27, 1970, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, following Bill’s return from service in the United States Navy.
Their marriage was blessed with two children: Heather Dawn Brun and Matthew Alan Brun. Judy and Bill raised their family near Chippewa Falls, WI until 1985, when they moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado. Their family endured the heartbreaking and premature loss of their daughter, Heather, when she was just 13 years old; a loss Judy carried with quiet strength and enduring love. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Ferneda Specht.
Judy enjoyed a successful career as an EKG technician in the cardiovascular department at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs. Her dedication and skill led to her promotion into department leadership, a role she held until her retirement.
In retirement, Judy and Bill moved to Spearfish, South Dakota, to be closer to their son and grandchildren. They cherished weekends and summers spent at their cabin at Iron Creek Lake. Judy devoted her time to working at The Salvation Army, continuing her lifelong commitment to caring for others. Bill and Judy were servants to their beloved cat, Haven, who passed within the same week as Judy.
A prolific and talented crocheter, Judy shared her creativity generously. Her beautifully crafted blankets are treasured and spread throughout dozens of homes across the Spearfish community; a lasting reminder of her warmth and generosity.
Judy is survived by her husband of 55 years, William Alan Brun; her son, Matthew Alan Brun; her daughter-in-law, Toni Lea Brun; and her grandchildren, Paige Alexander Brun, Hannah Heather Brun, and Ashton Alexander Brun, all of Spearfish, South Dakota. She is also survived by her siblings: Jim Specht (Terry), Jeff Specht (Kathy), and Jane Clarke (Steve), all of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Jack Specht of Florissant, Colorado.
Judy will be remembered for her devotion to family, her generous spirit, her quiet strength, and the countless lives she touched through both her work and her love.
